As one of those ancient 'board designers' who has been with ACAD since the days of the 8088 processor, I can tell you that the idiots at ANSI (to 'help' draftsmen create drawings faster via fewer lines drawn) eliminated much of the graphic interpretations by simplifying the symbology. So what's the problem? Entrenched thinking brought about by ANSI's kowtowing to production companies' desire to put out drawings faster. Now that we have ample microprocessor power & memory capacity, I believe it is time to revive the old adage, 'When in doubt, draw it out!' It's time to bring back the more realistic images to alleviate the confusion in the field, construction sites and machine shops! The templates exist in 2D.
All one has to do is a REVOLVE command to 'make them pretty'.pretty enough that any moron can understand what goes where correctly.

Inventor Fastener Library
Im currently looking for a 3d fastener library to use in my drawings. We are running acad 2000i and i cant seem to find any downloads on the web for blocks or sometype of file to import into my drawings. I have looked all over the web and cant find anything in.dwg format. I have found.sat formats and.dwf formats but i cant import them into my file. Im currently looking for a 3d modeled hex cap screw. More specifically a 5/8-18 UNF 1.2' long can anyone help me out?? Im currently at work so im stuck on a drawing untill i can get this part.
also, i know that mechanical desktop. MDT has not been sold by Autodesk since 2002. It has been replaced by Autodesk Inventor that does have a common parts Content Center. You can open an ACIS file (.sat) in AutoCAD using the ACIS in command.
You are using a really really old ancient obsolete version of AutoCAD. You will need to download the Hoops ACIS Viewer to convert any.sat files you find down to a version your AutoCAD will import. If I recall, old versions of AutoCAD would also read.stp files. Give stepin command a try and see if it is recognized. In any case it should only take 5 minutes or so to create the fastener form scratch.

README.md FreeCAD-library/Mechanical Parts/Fasteners/Bolts & Screws This repository contains a library of bolts and screws to be used in FreeCAD. See the main repository for more information. In most CAD systems, screw threads are never modelled because rendering many threaded screws in the same document would be too CPU intensive and would serve no purpose. These screws are intended to be used in assemblies and as such they are represented as cylindrical, with the nominal screw size as their outer diameter. Fully modelled threaded bolts and screws may be uploaded into this repository but should have 'FT' (for fully threaded) appended to their filename to identify them. The 'Metric' folder contains metric screws while the 'Unified' folder contains screws based on the Unified Thread Standard (UTS).
